The Western Union Building: A Neighborhood Transformation

Let’s talk about a transformation. A few decades ago, the Western Union building was a forgotten relic of the city, a vacant shell with a 24-hour diner that was more popular at 3 AM than 3 PM. Fast forward to today, and Cecil Baker's vision has breathed new life into the neighborhood.

The Condos at 1101 Locust Street in Center City, Philadelphia, is a unique blend of old-world charm and modern living. While the building's history is undeniable, the interiors offer a contemporary feel. The lobby, though, is a bit of a mixed bag - modern touches juxtaposed against the building's original character. Condo buyers will find a 24-hour doorman and valet.

The units themselves offer a variety of layouts but don't expect cookie-cutter condos. The kitchen designs at these Washington Square West area condos are pretty standard, and the bathrooms are mostly spacious. However, the real draw for many units is the outdoor space. Those upper-floor balconies and terraces? Prime real estate. South-facing units are particularly desirable for their natural light and views.

Parking? Let's just say it's an adventure. You get a license to park an SUV or a Sedan. And the gym? Well, it exists. But I've yet to see anyone actually use it.

Despite its quirks, the Western Union's location is a major selling point. You're smack dab in the heart of Washington Square West, with everything you need within walking distance. And let's not forget its proximity to Jefferson Medical Center, which is a huge plus for some buyers.

Overall, the Western Union is a solid building in a fantastic location. I like it, and many of my buyers feel the same when they see everything 1101 Locust St. offers.
